Patrick Kluivert will replace Guus Hiddink for the remainder of the qualification matches for World Cup 2021

Patrick Kluivert will be replacing the football manager of our national team, Guus Hiddink, for the qualification matches for the FIFA World Cup this coming June. At the moment, Hiddink is recovering from Covid-19 and will not be available for the upcoming games. He approached Kluivert, who is currently in a contract with FC Barcelona until the first of July 2021, to step in to direct the Curaçao national team in his place for the coming period. The president of FC Barcelona, Joan Laporta, a good friend of Hiddink, gave his approval for this temporary move. Hiddink approached Kluivert specifically because Kluivert has a wide knowledge of the playing styles of football teams here in the region and, of course, he is no stranger to our national team. From 2015 to 2016, it was he who was the football manager of our national team and during that time he built a bond with the team and our island. On June 5th, 2021, Curaçao will be facing the British Virgin Islands abroad and will then be playing a match against Guatemala here in Curaçao on June 8th, 2021. If our team wins these matches, we will qualify for the second round of qualifiers on June 12th and June 15th against the winner of Group D. We wish Guus Hiddink a speedy recovery and thank Patrick Kluivert for taking over to direct our national team in the coming period.
